Stress and Time Management – Don't Change The Rules!!!
Stress and time management often go hand in hand. In this global workplace, we’re supposed to embrace diversity. My audiences of leaders say there’s more stress at HOME –some of you go to work to RELAX! It’s not just the gender thing. How people feel about time can cause stress!
Some of us are more picky than others about time. I call the picky people “formal” with time, and the others are “casual” with time. No judgments here—just variety, diversity. Although I must admit, as a “formal” person, we do drive the others nuts—just a bit.
My bad habit—and perhaps yours—is giving our “casual” person a specific time I want to leave the house. As the time approaches, I find I am ready sooner (natch). So I say, “I’m ready, so we may as well go now.” The “casual” person counts on those next 5 minutes more than I realize! Sometimes, they go ballistic, because you “changed the rules midstream.” And we did.
So, OWN UP, formal people! Casual people are more casual with time—they are more laid back about it—that’s why you thought they were so adorable in the first place! Now, what was adorable, becomes annoying. NO! They were always casual; you knew that from the start—so don’t go changing the rules now, and making them crazy.
