Is Your Creativity Rooted in Faith?

‘Tis the season

‘Tis the season of faith. I’m not religious.

I always thought the passage, “Oh, ye, of little faith” was addressing me.

But I was mistaken. This year, I discovered two things, unexpectedly.

Faith vs. Hope.

Hope is wanting something to happen. Faith is knowing it will.

After creating her speech, my client is on her way to a TEDx stage early next year. Midway through our sessions, she said to me, through the zoom screen, “Mimi, you had so much faith. You saw this speech and me on the stage, before I did.” Yes, I had faith in her experience and the contribution she made to her industry. I had faith in myself to trust the process. The process is drawing out her words to answer the questions in the audience’s mind – – in the order in which they ask them.

Faith in the audience: humans are somewhat predictable when they are gathered together, in an experience, expectant. I have faith that we know what they expect. You know what I say: “We don’t teach. We don’t preach. We just show ‘em the movie and let ‘em in on the jokes.

Reading Your Audience’s Mind

As my client and I were editing for maximum audience connection, she said, “Mimi, you really know the audience’s mind.”

That’s when it hit me. I had been under the impression I went out on the high note of my keynote speaking career. Speaking for 7,500 people at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and 17,000 people at the Milwaukee Convention Center.

No, that wasn’t the pinnacle of my career. Those 30 years onstage were PREPARATION – – to know the mind of the audience, so I can coach people now.

I’m just getting started. I have faith in my clients’ brilliant ideas and in my talent to “draw them out.” (Latin root of “educate” is “educare”: “to draw out.”)

What was your high note? Did you go out on it? Or is it yet to come?

I’m doing the best work of my life right now. I’m excited every day to help you find your voice and claim your power with your words. And I love talking to you for a free 30 minutes, so sign up.

And happy wishes for the season of faith.
