NBA Finals — Business And Life Lessons For Us All
Last night’s NBA Finals game had SO many business and personal lessons for us all.
1. Contrary to Randy Newman’s song lyrics, short people got SO much reason to live! Jose (JJ) Barea, who is at least one head shorter than all the other players (he lists his height as 6 feet; the sportscasters call it 5’8”) was the STAR of the game in my opinion. It seems eye-hand coordination has little to do with height—he can shoot 3-pointers from the outside with the tallest of them. So, short people (like me): don’t let your stature stop you from doing anything. He is my hero. Sigh. . .
2. Always under-promise and over-deliver—not the other way around. The “stars” of the Miami Heat bragged about winning 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Championships, starting THIS SEASON, and lo and behold, guess not.
3. Don’t taunt the opponent, unless you can back it up. The 2 “stars” of the Miami Heat mugged in front of the camera their opponent, Dirk Nowitzki, coughing down his jersey, apparently insinuating he was exaggerating his illness. Dirk may have retaliated–he annihilated them in the 4th quarter, when it counted—good for him!
4. Someone once said, “When you win, it’s ‘we..’ When you lose, it’s ‘I.’” Good advice, LeBron. After the game, LeBron seemed to brag about his lofty lifestyle, instead of saying what we all wanted and needed to hear, “I messed up. I didn’t give it my all. I will practice hard, and get better, and not let you down again.”
