Might As Well Jump

“Mimi, how do you stay so upbeat throughout this crazy time?” I did not have an eloquent answer till I heard the lyrics, loud and clear, though my headphones, of Van Halen’s “Jump.” I realized I do get up, roll with the punches, and I go ahead and jump. I create my own little jump on the stationary bike. Might as well. For me, jumping is spinning—fashioning my very own spin class–standing out of the saddle, volume turned all the way up on my headphones, dancing on the pedals, heart rate up, sweat flying. With younger bone joints, I have been known to pound the pavement, run up and down stairs, or sweat in a live Zumba class (sigh).

We don’t need to sweat to create small joys. We can jump for joy in our hearts. Some of us are cooking more than ever, learning crafts we never thought of before, and polishing our own nails. (This month, I did holiday red with sparkles—joy every time I look at my fingers!)

And we can be our own cheerleader. My great-niece has a lovely little life. She is one year old. Both parents are home A LOT, so she has a permanent cheering section– non-stop reinforcement for every little action. She draws a circle and colors it in. “Yay!” she hears. She takes a couple of steps—“Good job!” She puts one block on top of another—“Woo-hoo, smart girl!” The applause is non-stop. I have become my own cheerleader. I find myself shooting trash into a wastebasket, and when I make it, I yell, “Yessss!”

So, until we can jump together in a stationary hug, I will leave you with my favorite lyrics for so much time alone.

“I get up and nothin’ gets me down . . .

You got to roll with the punches and get to what’s real. . .

Ah, might as well jump . . . go ahead and jump . . .

You say you don’t know

You won’t know until you begin. So jump.”

We are jumping eagerly into the new year. Time to reenergize your answer to the question, “What do you do?” Let’s work on what to say to market your business with a free consult call. Please schedule.
